Give Some Summer Love to Your Furnace – Don’t Wait Until Fall for Maintenance and Repair

It can seem bizarre to be thinking about your furnace in the summer, but it’s actually a very good idea. You can end up needing your heating in Winnipeg pretty suddenly, and if you haven’t maintained your heating system over the summer, it may malfunction just as it starts to actually get cold. Especially in the face of the extreme weather we’ve experienced over the last few years, it’s more than worth it to do a summertime check of your furnace.

First, you can either visually check over your furnace yourself, or have a professional do it. This simply means examining the furnace set up and looking for any damage. You should also check the thermostat and the vents. If you also have air conditioning and use it during the summer, you probably already know whether those components are working, so you don’t have to perform a special check.

Make sure to change or clean the furnace filters, and to run your furnace at least once before it gets properly cold. Also make sure that you haven’t stored anything that could be damaged or ignited by heat near your furnace while it wasn’t being used.

If you do detect any problems, especially if you see a crack in the heat exchanger, call in the professionals. A cracked heat exchanger can cause carbon monoxide problems when you turn your heater on, so it is crucial that it is fixed before the weather gets colder.

Even less serious problems are better attended to before the furnace is needed. Derksen Plumbing and Heating can get your furnace in working order before the cold weather comes. Give us a call at 204-944-3444!
