Plumbing Emergency? Call Derksen Plumbing 24/7

In a perfect world, plumbing and heating problems would never occur in the middle of the night or over the holidays. Unfortunately, home emergencies don’t always occur during regular business hours. Furnaces and boilers misbehave, toilets overflow, drains refuse to move and water heaters refuse to work at midnight just as often as they do at noon. That’s why the Service Department at Derksen Plumbing and Heating is available around the clock, seven days a week for plumbing and heating emergencies. Any plumbing, drain cleaning or HVAC problems in your home can be solved by our technicians, regardless of what time you call. Derksen Plumbing and Heating is a CORâ„¢ certified company, and a member of the Mechanical Service Contractors Association of Canada. With our extensive training and experience, we can solve your plumbing and heating problems in a timely and efficient manner, getting your home back in working order in good time with minimal interruption to your daily routine.

Boiler and furnace repairs or replacement, steam and hot water heating repairs, and emergency insurance-related repairs are just a sampling of the services available to our clients on a twenty-four-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week basis. Our commitment to you means that we’ll be there whenever we’re needed to ensure that your home and everything in it is protected from damage due to plumbing, heating and drain problems. Call Derksen Plumbing and Heating today (or tonight!) to get the help you need with a plumbing, drain or HVAC problem. We’ll do everything we can to ensure your satisfaction, even if it means coming out in the small hours of the morning to manage a plumbing emergency.

Maintenance Tips to Save Money and Prevent Future Damage

Home repairs can become quite expensive, especially if damages are sustained as a result of years of neglect. Making sure that you keep up with basic home maintenance tasks can save you not only a significant amount of money, but also reduce the stress and inconvenience that come with major repairs. Looking after your heating and plumbing systems now can really pay off in the long run, so it’s wise to make sure that these simple tasks aren’t forgotten.

Faucets and shower heads will stay functional for much longer when they’re cleaned properly, especially if your home has problems with hard water. Making a habit of periodically removing the drain cap from your bath tub to clean out accumulated hair and debris beneath it can also stave off stubborn clogs that lead to slow-moving or stopped drains. Boilers and furnaces should be cleaned by a professional once each heating season to ensure that motors and burners are well-maintained and operating properly.

Changing furnace filters is an important part of their maintenance, and may need to be done on a monthly basis. Neglecting to change filters in a timely manner on a furnace forces it to work harder than normal, which can lead to more wear and tear on the equipment than necessary. Along with basic cleaning and filter maintenance on the heating, cooling and plumbing systems in your home, you should also make sure that those systems are fully inspected by a professional on an annual basis to catch any problems that could be brewing before they spiral out of control and lead to exorbitant repair bills. Call Derksen Plumbing today to schedule your annual inspection, or with any questions you may have regarding home maintenance.

The 2013 ALS Cornflower Gala

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a devastating neuromuscular disease that progresses rapidly and leads to paralysis of the voluntary muscles. ALS is ultimately fatal, and there is currently no known cure or medical treatments that slow the progression of the disease itself. There are an estimated 3,000 Canadians living with ALS, and two or three of them will lose their lives every day. Up to 80% of patients that are diagnosed with ALS will lose their battle within two to five years of that diagnosis.

The ALS Society of Manitoba is dedicated to helping those afflicted with this disease in Manitoba, providing support to patients, their families and their caregivers through education, advocacy and helping them obtain the equipment they need. The ALS Society of Manitoba also runs support groups for ALS sufferers and their loved ones, along with the coordination of volunteer caregiver support through their VFAF program and residential services through the Brummitt-Feasby Home.

Derksen Plumbing is a proud supporter of the ALS Society of Manitoba, and a sponsor of the 2013 Cornflower Gala to benefit their efforts. Proceeds from live and silent auctions will benefit the ALS society of Manitoba, while guests enjoy a dinner catered by Urban Prairie, dancing and cocktails in the Hangar of the Western Canada Aviation Museum.

Supporting the cause of the ALS Society of Manitoba, either by attending the Cornflower Gala or getting involved in volunteer programs, allows you to make a real difference in the lives of those suffering from ALS. Until there’s a cure, the ALS Society of Manitoba and their supporters will continue to make every possible effort to improve the quality of life of ALS patients through care and advocacy. At Derksen Plumbing, we wholeheartedly support the ALS Society of Manitoba, and encourage you to find ways that you can make a difference in the lives of people suffering from this tragic disease.
